On Saturday at 6:43 p.m., Rockdale County deputies were called to a hit-and-run involving one car on Turner Road and Sherrie Lane, near the Rockdale and DeKalb County lines.

When deputies arrived six minutes later, they learned the driver, 35-year-old Shaquel Liburd left the area.

Deputies said Liburd’s mother came to the scene and told authorities that her son suffered from a traumatic brain injury from a previous accident.

The mother told officials that she had been on the phone with Liburd while with RCSO deputies and encouraged Liburd to return to the scene, but he did not.

Deputies then initiated a Mattie’s Call at 9:37 p.m. and began searching for Liburd.

Deputies also searched the area where Liburd’s phone last pinged. Despite the RCSO efforts, they were unable to locate the 35-year-old. The search ended at 11:43 p.m. on Saturday.
