Terrell Porter told Channel 2’s Tom Jones he was on the train Sunday afternoon when it happened. He shot video where you hear him say: “East Point station getting shut down.”

He shared the video of one of the victims being wheeled into an ambulance.

“Luckily, he’s alive,” he says in the video. “Bless the Lord, he’s alive.”

MARTA Police Chief M. Scott Kreher says this all began as the train was pulling into the East Point Station.

“The suspect was rummaging through the victim’s bag on the train,” Kreher said.

Witnesses say the victim noticed, and there was a confrontation.

“And then the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim as he was exiting the train at the East Point Marta station,” Kreher said. “The passenger was hit in the chest. One of the rounds ricocheted and grazed the neck of another passenger. He was treated at the scene.”

Police say surveillance video is helping in their investigation.

“We do have some good leads right now that we are working, so I’m confident that we will be able to resolve this case pretty quickly,” Kreher said.

Kreher says MARTA is safe and violent crime is down 40% at this point compared to last year.

One passenger says something is wrong when someone brings a gun on a train and shoots people.

“It’s sad. The way people carry on these days,” he said.

The victim shot in the chest is stable at Grady Hospital. Police are waiting for him to recover from surgery to speak to him about what happened.

Officers say depending on the course of their investigation, they may release pictures of the gunman.
