ATLANTA — Storms and strong winds are moving through north Georgia and metro Atlanta on Saturday afternoon.

5:47 p.m. - Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Greene and Putnam Counties until 6:15 p.m.

5:10 p.m.- Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Jasper County until 5:45 p.m.

4:13 p.m. - University of Georgia game goes to weather delay as game reaches halftime.

4:00 p.m. - Thousands across metro Atlanta and north Georgia are without electricity, according to Georgia Power.

More than 1,200 of those Georgia Power customers are in the Vinings area of Cobb County.

3:15 p.m. - Kickoff delayed due to weather at the Georgia Tech football home opener at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta.

2:50 p.m. - Channel 2 Action News viewers report a portion of the roof at the Red Roof Inn on George Busbee Pkwy. near Kennesaw blew off as strong winds moved through.

2:45 p.m. - A Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Cherokee and Cobb counties has expired.

2:18 p.m. - A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued in Cherokee and Cobb counties until 2:45 p.m.

9:52 a.m. - Kickoff for the University of Georgia football game at Sanford Stadium in Athens moved up to 2:30 p.m. due to possible weather later in the afternoon.


Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Eboni Deon says scattered storms and some heavy rain are possible, but the main threat will be damaging wind gusts.

Deon says a cold front will move through the area later on Saturday.

On Sunday, it will be much drier and temperatures will be slightly cooler.

Early next week, highs will be in the lower 80s.
