ATLANTA — While it has been a very quiet Atlantic tropical season, that doesn’t mean it’s over.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz said Tropical depression 9 has formed in the Gulf and is expected to become a tropical storm Tuesday night or Wednesday.

Nitz said the storm could then strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday, named Isaias.

The current path would have the storm making landfall along the northern Gulf Coast on Friday sometime between the afternoon and evening.

“The wind will weaken as it moves north over land, but heavy rain will fall across the Southeast on Saturday and possibly into Sunday,” Nitz said.
