Coldest temperatures since February after first snow this fall

A freeze warning is in effect across north Georgia through 10 a.m., as the coldest air since last winter wakes us up early this morning.

We’re tracking when the cold air moves out and warmer temps return, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News.

Early this morning, a winter weather advisory in the mountains expired, but Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan says there will still be some icy patches on the roads where snow fell yesterday.

Several mountain school districts have made adjustments to today’s schedule because of the cold and snow.

Monahan tracked dropping temperature live on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

Monahan said we’re about to start a big warming trend though, with temperatures in the 70s late this week.

Advice for cold weather

Leave faucets dripping and cover outside faucets when temperatures drop below freezing. Bring in pets and plants susceptible to cold to keep them warm.

Make sure fireplace flues are open to prevent smoke and carbon monoxide to fill the home. Keep portable heaters away from flammable items and make sure they are for indoor use.

Newer space heaters have features like auto-off and cool-touch cases, making them even safer for indoor use.

Check cars for proper tire inflation and fill windshield wiper fluid and coolant/antifreeze. Carry extra jackets and blankets for longer trips in case of a breakdown or extended stop.
