A flood watch is in effect for parts of the north metro Atlanta area into the north Georgia mountains until 2 a.m. Thursday, with saturated soil and an additional 1-2 inches of rain in some spots.
The following counties are in the flood watch: Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Dade, Dawson, Fannin, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gordon, Hall, Lumpkin, Murray, Pickens and Polk, Union, Towns, Walker, and Whitfield.
Rain will taper off by morning, with only a few clouds and stray showers. There will be some scattered coverage of showers and storms for Thursday afternoon and evening.
Expect it to be a little drier and a little hotter in the days to follow.
